201 Dome Mosque

201 Gombuj Masjid (201 Gombuj Masjid/The 201 Dome Mosque) is located in Dakshin Pathalia village of Gopalpur Upazila of Tangail District, which is already recognized as the largest number of dome mosques in the world. And the position of this mosque is second in terms of the height of the minaret. The mosque is known as ‘201 Dome Mosque’ due to the total of 201 elaborate domes on the roof of the mosque.
In January 2013, the construction of a huge mosque and mosque complex on 15 bighas of land was started by the initiative of Muktijodha Rafiqul Islam Welfare Trust. This two-storied mosque is 144 feet long and 144 feet wide. The main dome on the roof of the Drishinshan Mosque is 81 feet high and around this dome 200 more domes of 17 feet height have been constructed. There are four minarets of 101 feet high at the four corners of the mosque. Also, four minarets of 81 feet height have been placed side by side. And the main minaret has been built next to the mosque, the height of which is 451 feet. About 15 thousand worshipers can pray in 201 dome mosque at the same time. The entire Quran Sharif is written on the wall of the mosque. And 50 maunds of brass were used to make the main door of the mosque.
Apart from this, the mosque complex has a mortuary, a free hospital, an orphanage, an old age home, and a facility for rehabilitating the destitute freedom fighters and their families.

How to go

If you want to visit the 201 Dome Mosque from any part of Bangladesh, you must first come to Tangail district headquarters. The mosque is 50 km from Tangail Sadar and 7 km from Gopalpur Upazila Sadar. You can go to Gopalpur upazila by bus or CNG from Tangail by renting an auto or CNG and you can easily go to 201 Dom Mosque.
