National Science and Technology Museum

On April 26, 1965, the then government of Pakistan established the National Museum of Science and Technology in Dhaka. The museum was shifted to the Dhaka Public Library Building in September of the year of its establishment and later, in April 1970, it was shifted to Chamelibagh, and in May of the following year to Road No. 1, Dhanmondi.
In 1972, the government granted it the status of National Museum and it started functioning as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Science and Technology. Since 1987, the National Science and Technology Museum has been conducting its activities from its own building. Currently National Science and Technology Museum is located in Agargao BNP Bazar in capital Dhaka.

What is there to see in the museum?

There is a 4 storied building in the museum premises. The 1st and 2nd floors of the building house exhibition halls, 3rd floor offices and 4th floor Bangladesh Science Academy. Science and Technology Museum mainly arranged with seven galleries.

There is magic of science in the exhibition, there is a glimpse of our future world. Practical knowledge of science taught in textbooks can be obtained by visiting this museum. There is a wonderful opportunity for students to see various aspects of science in this museum.

There is Physics Gallery, Biology Gallery, Atomic Corner. There is a section with useful items of the best scientists of Bangladesh.

The Industrial Technology Gallery has various industries ranging from antique machinery to state of the art machinery. Bangladesh’s first IBM computer is also kept in this gallery.

Apart from the exhibition hall, there is a library, workshop and auditorium. There is a dinosaur statue and a small fighter plane in the building premises.

It is noted that about one and a half lakh visitors come to the science and technology museum every year. This number is increasing day by day. The National Science and Technology Museum is increasingly becoming a popular institution for science education and science-based entertainment

Science and Technology Museum entrance fees and schedule

The entry fee to the museum for visitors is 20 rupees. Ticket price per person for watching 4D/9D movie is 40 taka, ticket price for sky viewing through telescope is 10 taka and ticket price for watching VR movie is 20 taka.
The Science and Technology Museum is open from Sunday to Wednesday from 10 am to 5 pm, except Thursdays and government holidays.
Summer Schedule (April-October): Friday: 03:30 AM to 07:00 AM; And Saturday: 11:00 AM to 06:00 AM.
Winter Schedule (November-March): Friday: 03:00 AM to 06:00 AM; And Saturday: 10:00 AM to 06:00 AM.

How to go

You can come to the National Science and Technology Museum located in Agargaon by CNG, taxi or bus from any part of the capital Dhaka. You can get down at Agargao station in the metro and take a rickshaw or walk a bit.

Nearest Places to Visit

There are several other museums and places to visit nearby. If you have time, you can visit them. Notable among them are Bangabandhu Military Museum, Novotheater, Liberation War Museum, Bangladesh Air Force Museum, Chandrima Udyan etc.
