To see the Baliati zamindar house, you have to go to Baliati village of Saturia upazila, about 8 km from Manikganj district. The Baliati zamindar house stands tall as a witness of glory with seven traditional structures. The various buildings of this splendid zamindar house have been built by different heirs at different times. The Baliati zamindar house is currently being preserved and managed by the Bangladesh Archaeological Department. And in the central block of the landlord’s house, a museum has been built in the building known as Rangmahal. This zamindar house is also known as Baliati Palace. The grounds of the traditional palace built in the 19th century are spread over an area of about 16,554 square meters. Two lion statues are placed on either side of the entrance gate of the zamindar house. All the zamindar premises are surrounded by high walls and one enters through the main gate of the zamindar house to see a spacious green covered courtyard. A beautiful flower garden has been developed in the courtyard. There are four multi-storied buildings side by side right after the courtyard. Behind these buildings are four ponds and the zamindar’s courtyard. The number of rooms in the palace is 200 and in every room one can see the fine craftsmanship. Each wall is about 20 ev thick in buildings made of lime-surki, iron sheet and clay. Baliyati zamindar house full of Anana construction techniques and craftsmanship reflects the nobility of the zamindars of that time.
During summer (April to September) Baliati Zamindar Bari is open for visitors from 10 am to 6 pm and during winter (October to March) Baliati Zamindar Bari is open for visitors from 9 am to 5 pm. Zamindar Bari is closed for temporary breaks from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM on other days of the year except Friday. Zamindar Bari is temporarily closed for prayers every Friday from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. Baliati Zamindar Bari is closed for visitors on all public holidays except every Sunday full day and Monday half day. Entry Fee: An entry fee of Tk 30 per person is required to enter the Baliati Zamindar House. Entry fee for foreign nationals is Tk 200.
How to go
From Gabtali bus terminal in Dhaka, you can take the buses that go to Aricha or Manikganj and stop at Saturia. It is better to take SB link transport from Gabtali to Saturia. Cross Saturia and descend to Saturia Zero Point. The bus supervisor will be dropped off if the girl mentions the zamindar house. Bus from Dhaka to Saturia Zero Point usually takes a little more than 2 hours. But you have to leave with the jam in mind. The distance from the zero point to the Zamindar house is 1 km. You can go to Baliati Palace by renting an easybike or CNG for Tk 20-30. CNG is also available at Saturia bus stand. You can go by easy bike for 50-60 taka rent.
If you want to go from Uttara of Dhaka, go to Nabinagar via Abdullahpur. Saturia will get bus from in front of the memorial. Rent will take 40-50 taka. From Saturia one can go by the above mentioned route. Besides, if you want to come from any other part of the country, you can first come to Manikganj and go anywhere by local transport.
