Rai Bahadur Srinath Palace is located in Sheikher Nagar village of Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj district. Ray Bahadur Srinath Roy’s house is a witness of the times in the village of Chaya Sunibir near Shekernagar Rai Bahadur Institution near Ichamati River and it is telling the unknown stories of history and tradition. Roy’s two-storied house of square design is 40 feet long and 20 feet wide. On the north, west and south sides of the two-storied building there are 3 more single-storied buildings of 20 feet length and 15 feet width. There are two Shanbadhano Ghat ponds on the east and south sides of Rai Bahadur Srinath Roy’s house.
Srinath Roy, very charitable and one of the richest men of Munshiganj, was awarded the title of ‘Raja’ and ‘Ray Bahadur’ by the British rulers. On 21 Shravan 1322, the first Governor of Bengal, Lord Carmichael, arrived at the house of Rai Bahadur Srinath Rai to inaugurate a charitable hospital. During the partition of the country in 1947, all the family members of Raja Srinath Roy migrated to Calcutta.
How to go
Distance from Dhaka to Munshiganj by road is only 23 km. Munshiganj can be reached by taking a bus bound for Mawa from Gulisthan, Abdullahpur or Mirpur in Dhaka. If you want, you can go to Munshiganj by boat. In that case, board the Munshiganj-bound launch from Dhaka’s Sadar Ghat launch terminal. From Munshiganj district headquarter you can take a bus to Sirajdikhan upazila and from there you can take a rickshaw to Rai Bahadur Srinath Roy’s house.
