Rayerkathi Jomidar Bari (Rayerkathi Jomidar Bari) is one of the historical structures of Pirojpur district. The zamindar house of Rayerkathi, located just three kilometers north of the district headquarters, is about three hundred and fifty years old. There are palaces, guesthouses, theaters, theaters and taverns. There were about two hundred small and big buildings in this zamindar house. Out of which 40 to 50 large Autralikas were made only for the decoration of the royal palace.
In 1658 Kalimandir was built in Rayerkathi zamindar’s house, where a Shiva linga weighing about 25 manas is installed. This Shiva Linga is considered to be the largest Shiva Linga in the subcontinent. At present, 7 buildings in Rayerkathi zamindar house are standing as a witness of ancient times.
History:
During the reign of Emperor Akbar, Prince Salim declared rebellion and came to Bengal and created a pargana with parts of Jhalkathi, Bagerhat and Pirojpur districts and named the pargana Selimabad. In 1618, Madan Mohan was appointed to collect the revenue of Selimabad Pargana. In 1628, Madan Mohan bought some land in Selimabad Pargana in the name of his son Srinath. Later the Mughal Emperor conferred the title of Raja on Srinath Ray. In 1658, Rudra Narayan Roy Chowdhury, the son of Raja Srinath Roy, cleared the forest and built a palace and a temple near present-day Pirojpur. The region came to be known as Rayerkathi as the new state was established by clearing the forests
How to go
Pirojpur district can be reached by road and sea from Dhaka. Various from Gabtali and Syedabad bus terminals
Paribahan buses ply regularly on the route to Pirojpur. Falguni Paribahan, Welcome Express, Palki Express, Sakura Paribahan buses leave for Pirojpur daily from Dhaka. The fare of these buses will be 650 to 800 taka depending on the standard.
There is also an opportunity to go to Pirojpur by river route. The launch Rajdoot/Parabat departs from the Sadarghat river port in capital Dhaka at 7pm daily and the steamer Ostrich departs from Sadarghat for Pirojpur at 9pm.
From Pirojpur district headquarters, one can easily visit Rayerkathi zamindar house which is just three kilometers away by rickshaw or autorickshaw.
