Shrine of Shah Niamat Ullah

Hazrat Shah Niyamatullah’s Shrine, located in Tahakhana Complex, just half a kilometer away from Chhota Sona Mosque in Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj District, is well known as an ancient monument of Mughal architecture. Hazrat Shah Syed Neemat Ullah (RA) is one of the famous saints of the 16th century. He was a descendant of the world prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and was a manly saint, scholar and spiritual master. During the reign of Sultan Shah Shuja, he traveled from Karonia in Delhi to various places and arrived at the Rajmahal of Ferozepur. Bengal Sultan Shah Shuja received him with great honor and accepted the pledge. Later he established a permanent Asthana on the outskirts of Gaur in Ferozepur and propagated Islam with reputation for 33 years. After his death in 1075 to 1080 Hijri, he was buried at this place.
30-35 meters north of the tahakhana, surrounded by the wall of the mosque, the tomb of Shah Niamat Ullah is a domed building standing on high bricks. Each side of this mausoleum is 49 feet long and has a square design surrounded by a wooden and brick wall. The tomb has a total of 12 arches, 3 each on the east, west and south sides. That is why this Mazar Sharif is called Barduari. The main room of the mausoleum is surrounded by a wide balcony, decorated with various flowers, foliage plants. It is believed that there are tombs of Khadem and family members of Hazrat Shah Syed Niamat Ullah (RA) in the tomb premises.
“Oorsh” is celebrated at this shrine on the first day of Muharram every year as the birth and death day of Hazrat Shah Niamat Ullah. Legend has it that on the last Friday of the month of Bhadra, Hazrat Shah Neemat Ullah first entered the city of Gaur to preach Islam. For this reason, a different religion Orsha is organized on the last Friday of the month of Bhadra as the auspicious day. All-night dhikr after Asr on Thursday, gilaf received by descendants of Pir Saheb at Hazrat’s shrine on Friday Bad Jumma and Milad Mahfil organized in the evening. Every day numerous devotees and visitors from far and wide gather at the shrine of this great saint.

How to go

Chapainawabganj can be reached from Dhaka by road and rail. Good quality buses like Mordan, Hanif or Shyamli ply from various places of the capital to Chapainawabganj. AC/Non AC bus fare is 830 to 1500 taka depending on the standard. Chapainawabganj district can be reached by Banlata Express train from Kamalapur railway station. The fare will be 515 to 1173 taka per seat. You can visit Shah Niamat Ullah shrine which is about 28 km away by hiring CNG or auto rickshaw from Chapainawabganj district city.
