Tohakhana

The traditional Mughal Tahakhana or Tohakhana complex is located in Shahabajpur Union of Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj District. The distance from Chapainawabganj to Tohakhana is about 35 km. The Persian word tohakhana means cold building or palace. Mughal Emperor Shahjahan’s son Sultan Shah Shuja built this 3-storey heat-controlled palace in Ferozepur to facilitate the winter residence of his murshid Syed Neymatullah. According to various historical sources, this temple was built in 1639-1658 AD.
Shah Shuja actually stayed in a spacious room in the middle of the building to spend his vacations in the Tohakhana. There are several unnamed tombs within the Tohakhana complex. They are believed to be Khadem or Companions of Hazrat Shah Syed Niamatullah. The Tohkhana complex also includes three domed mosques, kup and a domed mausoleum.
