Saint Martin is the only coral island in Bangladesh. It is located in the southernmost part of the mainland of Bangladesh. Saint Martins Island is a small island of 17 square kilometers 120 kilometers away from Cox’s Bazar district city. Saint Martin is also known as Coconut Jinjira in the local language. The island is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Bangladesh. The endless blue sky along with the blue waters of the sea, and the rows of coconut trees make this island unique, which draws travel-hungry people towards Durniba.
How to go
Most ships to Saint Martin depart from Teknaf. So if you want to go to Saint Martin, it is convenient to go to Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar district. Saint Martin can be reached by ship or trawler from Teknaf. If you want to go from Dhaka, it is convenient to go directly to Teknaf by bus and from there by ship/trawler to Saint Martin. If Cox’s Bazar is in your travel plan, you can go from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar and then from Teknaf to Saint Martin. Or you can go directly to Saint Martin by MV Karnaphuli Express Ship from Cox’s Bazar. At present, MV Bay One Ship has been launched from Chittagong to Saint Martin. All possible ways to get to Saint Martin are detailed below.
Teknaf can be directly reached by bus from Dhaka. From Gabtali, Kalabagan, Fakirapool, Syedabad, and Abdullahpur in Dhaka, Shyamli, St. Martin Paribahan, St. Martin Hyundai, Royal Coach, Tuba Line, S Alam, Modern Line, Green Line, etc. buses go directly to Teknaf. The fare usually ranges from Tk 1100 to Tk 2200 depending on the bus and class. If you only want to go to Saint Martin then it is best to take a direct bus from Dhaka to Teknaf. The bus departs between 8-10 pm and reaches Teknaf by 8 am.
From Dhaka, you can first come to Cox’s Bazar and then go to Teknaf from Cox’s Bazar. Every day many buses like Green Line, Sohag, TR Travels, Shyamoli, Hanif, Saudia, Eagle, S Alam, Silk Line, St. Martin, etc leave for Cox’s Bazar from Dhaka. The bus fare usually ranges from Tk 1200 to Tk 2500. If you want to travel directly to Cox’s Bazar by train from Dhaka, you can take the Cox’s Bazar Express or Tourist Express train from Kamalapur or Airport Railway Station. Also, if you want to come from Dhaka by train via Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar, you can take Sonar Bangla, Suborn Express, Trina-Nishitha, Mahanagar Prabhati / Twilight trains from Kamalapur or airport railway station according to your convenience. Then you can come to Cox’s Bazar by S Alam, Hanif, or Unique Paribahan bus from Chittagong’s New Bridge area, Alankar Mor, Cinema Palace, or Dampara Bus Stand. Depending on the bus, the fare will be Tk 420 to Tk 1000. Also, you can go directly to Cox’s Bazar by plane from Dhaka.
