Shailprapat Jharna is located on Bandarban-Janchi road, 8 km from Bandarban district town. Shailprapat is one of the well-known springs in Bangladesh. Being near the tourist town of Bandarban, this spring of clear and cold water is crowded with tourists throughout the year. The special feature of this spring is the ever-flowing stream of ice-cold water, which makes the rockfall an attractive tourist spot in Bandarban. Besides, there is an ideal environment for a picnic next to this fountain. You must visit Shail Prapat to see the mountains, waterfalls, and mithali of rural life.
When to go and what to see
The monsoon season is the most ideal time to see the true beauty of any fountain in Bangladesh. During the rainy season, the fountain regains its full youth. Of course, the rock falls show their beauty at different times of the year. So if you go to Bandarban during other times than the monsoon season, you should not ignore the rock falls. Moreover, there is no need to go to Bandarban separately for the rock falls. On the way to Chimbuk or Nilgiris, one of the places of interest in Bandarban, one has to pass in front of the rock falls. So it is best to stop the rental car on the side of the road while visiting the Nilgiris or Chimbuk Hills to see the falls. And if you just want to see the rock falls then you can do that too.
If you go to the Rock Falls, you will see the lifestyle of the Bam tribes. You can buy hand-woven sheets, mufflers, bedsheets, cane, and bamboo products as souvenirs. Besides, you can easily taste the various seasonal fruits produced by Bamdar.
How to go
S. from Abdullahpur, Arambagh, Kalyanpur, Sayedabad and Gabtali of Dhaka. Alam, Saudia, St. Martin Transport, Unique, Hanif, Shyamli, Dolphin, etc. buses leave for Bandarban. The fare of these buses is Tk 800-900 for Non AC and Tk 1200-1800 for AC respectively. It takes 8-10 hours to go to Bandarban from Dhaka by bus.
If you want to go by train, you can go to Chittagong by train from Dhaka to Tourist Express, Cox’s Bazar Express, Sonar Bangla, Subarna Express, Trina Nishita, Mahanagar Godhuli. Class-wise rent is 405 to 1398 taka. Besides, you can directly come to Chittagong from Dhaka by air.
From Baddarhat in Chittagong Durchi named Pubali and Purbani set out for Bandarban. These two buses cost Tk 220 per person. You can come to Bandarban by bus from Chittagong’s Dhampara bus stand for Tk 200-300.
Rock Falls from Bandarban
Shailprapat can be reached by CNG/Jeep/Chander vehicle from Bandarban. Just to see the rock falls will cost 500-800 taka including transportation. Besides, you can see Chimbuk or Nilgiris en route. That way you can plan your trip.
