Abhayashram Baikka Beel is located on the eastern side of Hail Haor in Srimangal of Moulvibazar district, which is famous as the city of tea. The distance from Srimangal town to Baikka Bill is about 20 km. After the decision of 1 July 2003 to preserve Baikka Bill as a fish sanctuary, attractive tourist spots have developed around Baikka Bill. Baikka Beel, home to spectacular scenery and thousands of birdlife, has sand, wild duck habitats and vast grazing grounds for cattle and buffaloes. Every winter, domestic and foreign tourists flock here from far and wide to admire the beauty of the bill. Currently, the Haor is a safe habitat for 80 species of fish, 18 species of endangered fish and about 160 species of birds. Due to the large number of bird arrivals, a bird census is conducted at this Baikka Bill every year and this data is stored internationally.
Spread across 100 hectares of wetlands, Baikka Beel is home to aquatic and amphibian fauna. Among the notable birds are Pankauri, Kanibak, Dahuk, Water Rooster, Dhalabak, Dhupani Buck, Ranga Buck, Fish Ranga, Gobuk, Sankhchil etc. The vast water body of Baikka Bill, which is renewed seasonally, is filled with various types of aquatic flora and fauna such as Hijal, Kalmi, Nayankara, Pana, Shapla, Neel Padma, Singra and Makhana. A two-storied observation tower has been constructed near the bill to facilitate the visitors to see the natural beauty.
