Haripur Jamidar Bari is located in Harinber village of Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
A historical building. On about 5 acres of land, this three-storied zamindar house built of red brick suki masonry has a total of 60 rooms, a durbar hall, rang mahal, paddy shed, cowshed, dance hall, mall pond, kitchen, bar field, and temple. In addition, there is a ghat built on the bank of Titas River on the west side of Haripur Bara Bari Yayat Zamindar Bari. And on the north side of the ghat is Krishna Prasad Roy, the founder of Haripur Zamindar Bari. Samadhi Math of Chowdhury and Gauri Prasad Roy Chowdhury.
According to historians about 175 years ago Zamindar Gauri Prasad Roy Chowdhury and Krishna Prasad Roy Chowdhury built Haripur Zamindar Bari. After the death of Krishna Prasad Roy Chowdhury, Haripad Roy Chowdhury and Shanti Roy Chowdhury and later Upendra Roy Chowdhury and Harendra Roy Chowdhury inherited the ownership and zamindari of this zamindar house. After 1947, when the zamindari system was abolished, Upendra Roy Chowdhury and Harendra Roy Chowdhury migrated to Calcutta leaving the priests in the zamindar’s house in Haripur.
Haripur Zamindar’s house, built in aesthetic style, has been the location of several dramas and movies. A significant part of the film ‘Ghetuputra Kamala’ written by renowned fiction writer Humayun Ahmed was shot in Haripur Zamindar’s house. Currently, Haripur Jamindar Bari is preserved under the supervision of the Bangladesh Directorate of Antiquities.
How to go
The easiest and most convenient route to Haripur Zamindar Bari from the capital Dhaka is to take the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. From Dhaka take a bus going to Sylhet or Habiganj and get off at Madhavpur Bazar and from there you can rent CNG and visit the Jamidar’s house.
