Pagla Jame Masjid

Pagla Bara Jame Masjid (Pagla Jame Masjid) is located on the banks of the Mahasingh River at Pagla Bazar in South Sunamganj Upazila of Sunamganj District. Locally it is known as Raipur Bara Jame Masjid. In 1931, local businessman Yasin Mirza started the construction of Pagla Bara Jame Masjid under the guidance of skilled architect Mumin Astaga from India. The foundation stone of the mosque was laid on Friday 5th Ashwin 1331. After ten years of continuous work, the mosque got its present form. This two-storied mosque has a length of 150 meters and a width of 50 meters. The mosque’s roof has 3 domes of 25 feet and 6 towering minarets.
The architectural style and aesthetic craftsmanship of Pagla Bara Jame Masjid attract everyone. The mihrab of the mosque is designed by cutting magnificent stones. The elaborate tiles around the mosque were brought from Italy, Germany, and England. The special feature of the mosque is that no rod was used to construct this two-story mosque. Built entirely of brick, the mosque’s foundation is placed on reinforced concrete to resist earthquakes. In front of the Pagla Bara Jame Masjid, there is a large Eidgah ground and an entrance gate on the north side
