Commonwealth Cemetery or Moynamoti War Cemetery (Moynamoti War Cemetery) 737 soldiers of the Second World War are lying in eternal sleep. Among them are 24 Japanese prisoners of war and 1 civilian besides soldiers killed in action. Mainamati War Cemetery is the 2nd commonwealth cemetery of Bangladesh situated on about 4.5 acres of hilly land between Tipra Bazar and Mainamati Sahib Bazar in Comilla Cantonment, 5 km from Comilla. Although the Mainamati War Cemetery is known as the ‘English Cemetery’ to the locals, there are graves of Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Christians and Jews. Soldiers killed and wounded in World War 2 are buried in Mainamati War Cemetery with the rank of Brigadier. There is another such commonwealth cemetery of 755 soldiers at Badsha Mia Chowdhury Road in Chittagong city.
During the inspection
Mainamati War Cemetery is open to all throughout the year from 7 am to 5 pm except for 2 days of Eid. However, the cemetery is closed for a temporary break from 12 noon to 1 am every day.

Mainamati War Cemetery can be reached by CNG or bus from any part of the country.
It takes 2 and a half to 3 hours to reach Comilla by road from Dhaka. From Dhaka’s Sayedabad Bus Terminal and Kamalapur to Tisha, Star Line, BRTC, Royal, Asia Line Paribahan to Comilla costs Tk 250 to Tk 400 per person.
