Teesta Barrage

Teesta Barrage (Teesta Barrage) or Teesta irrigation project is the largest irrigation project in Bangladesh. On one side of Teesta Barrage is Doani village of Goddimari union under Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district and on the other side there is a place called Dalia of Khalisa Chapani union under Dimla upazila of Nilphamari district. In 1937, the then government took a plan to build the Teesta Barrage to provide irrigation facilities to the uncultivated lands of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari and Bogra districts. Later in 1979, the construction of 615 meter long barrage with 44 radial gates started, which was completed in 1990. Green fences have been built on both sides of the Teesta Barrage river. There are also a few picnic spots in the barrage area. Running along the black pitch road of the barrage or the mind-blowing beauty of the surrounding environment attracts the visitors coming here with a magical illusion.

How to go

If you want to go to Teesta Barrage from the capital Dhaka or other cities, go to Nilphamari or Lalmonirhat district according to your convenience. You can hire rickshaws, scooters and motorcycles to get to Teesta from Nilphamari. And you can choose bus or train to go from Dhaka to Lalmonirhat. From Kamalapur railway station, Lalmoni Express departs at 09:45 PM on 6 days except Fridays and Rangpur Express trains depart at 09:10 AM on 6 days except Mondays. The price of the train ticket will be 635 to 2180 taka depending on the seat. Besides, buses of Nabil Paribahan, SR Travels, Manik Express, Barkat Travels, Hanif, Shah Ali Paribahan leave for Lalmonirhat from Gabtali and Kalyanpur. AC/Non-AC bus fare will cost Tk 600-1600 per person. There are various types of vehicles to reach Teesta Barrage by road from Lalmonirhat Sadar.
