Bhasha Shaheed Abdus Salam was born on 27 November 1925 in Laxmanpur village of Feni district. The current name of Laxmanpur village is Salam Nagar after him. Due to his father’s job, Shaheed Abdus Salam lived in the quarters next to Dhaka Medical College during the language movement. On February 21, 1952, the students took part in the protest by ignoring Article 144 on the road in front of the Dhaka Medical College Hostel. Abdus Salam was shot by the police during the protest and died on April 07, 1952, after about a month and a half while undergoing treatment.
In February 2000, language martyr Abdus Salam was posthumously awarded the Ekushey Padak. Language Martyr Abdus Salam Memorial Museum was established in Salam Nagar adjacent to Matubhuana Bridge along the Feni-Noakhali road in honor of the memory of Language Martyr Abdus Salam. A book fair is organized on the museum premises every year in February.
How to go
You can board any bus plying on the Chittagong route from Dhaka directly to the Mohipal bus stand in Feni. Besides, you can get down at Feni railway station by Chittagong train and hire a CNG or auto rickshaw to come to Mohipal junction. Train fare will be 250 to 1035 taka depending on the class.
Bhasha Shaheed Abdus Salam Library and Memorial Museum is located at Salam Nagar, just 10 km from Mohipal Bus Stand Junction in Feni. Language Martyr Abdus Salam Library and Memorial Museum can be reached by CNG or Bus from Mohipal Bus Stand.
