Banga Sonahat Bridge

Bongo Sonahat Bridge is a historical bridge located on Dudhkumar River in Banga Sonahat Union of Bhurungamari Upazila of Kurigram District. Banga Sonahat Railway Bridge, about 1,200 feet long, was built over the Dudhkumar River in Vurungamari in 1887 AD as part of the construction of a railway to facilitate the movement of British troops and supplies from Lalmonirhat in Bangladesh to the Indian state of Manipur. During the liberation war in 1971, the freedom fighters demolished a part of this bridge to disrupt the communication of Pakistani soldiers. After the war, the bridge was renovated and used as a normal bridge. Many wanderlust visitors come here for picnics during winters. 1 km west of Banga Sonahat Bridge is Pateshwari Bazaar, which was once very bustling. Just a few kilometers away from Pateshwari Bazar is an ancient mosque built by Mirjumla. And this historic mosque was built in 1660.
