Bardi Loknath Ashram

Sri Sri Loknath Bramhachari Ashram  or Bardi Loknath Ashram is located in the north-west corner of Bardi Bazar of Sonargaon Upazila, 34 km away from Narayanganj district. Loknath Brahmachari was born on August 31, 1730 in Kachua village under Barasat police station in 24 parganas district of West Bengal. He renounced female education and took a monastic vow and practiced rigorous yoga in the Himalayas. Later he came out to the locality to spread knowledge among the people. Loknath Brahmachari, after traveling to different countries, reached Sonargaon in 1863 and established this ashram in the intense vibrancy of nature in Bardi village. Mahapurusha Loknath Brahmachari breathed his last on June 1, 1890 after nearly 22 years of worship. Bardi Loknath Ashram is known as a meeting place for all people irrespective of caste-religion-caste.
To the south of the Bardi Loknath Ashram there is Mahapurusha Loknath Brahmachari Samadhi, a century-old huge bakul tree and two ponds named “Kamna Sagar” and “Zeus”. Inside the ashram is a large oil painting of Loknath Brahmachari. There are 3 guesthouses for the overnight stay of the visitors.
Nineteen Jaishtha Tirodhan festivals, religious events and week-long fairs are organized every year to commemorate the death of Mahapurusha Loknath Brahmachari with reverence. All day there is a brilliant program called “Hari Lut” with Gita reading, Balyabhoga, reading of Loknath’s biography, Rajbhoga, Prasad distribution, Aarti and Kirtan. Also, this Ashram’s centenary traditional festival is called ‘Rakher Upwas’. Every year from 15th to 30th of Kartik, this fast is held every Saturday and Tuesday. During that time, many devotees and visitors from home and abroad gather at Bardi Loknath Ashram.

How to go

You can reach Bardi Loknath Ashram by taking Doel, Swadesh or Borak bus from Gulisthan in Dhaka to Mograpara in Narayanganj and hiring a CNG or auto rickshaw from Mograpara intersection.
