BiriShiri

Birishiri is a traditional village located in Durgapur upazila of Netrakona district. Vijaypur in Birishiri has attractive porcelain hills and blue water lakes. These porcelain hills and plains of Vijaypur extend about 16 km in length and 600 m in width. The blue water of the lake instantly washes away all tiredness and fatigue. Sameswari river is the main source of the unique blue water of the lake. This river is now better known as a coal mine. Someswari river is unique in its appearance like the lake of blue flame.

Birishiri is ideal for visiting porcelain hills, blue water lake, Someshwari river, Ranikhong church and Kamala Rani Dighi. The beauty of Kashban on the banks of Someshwari river and the distant Garo hills fascinates all the travelers who come to Birishiri. During the monsoons, the Someswari river takes all forms, and tourists flock to see the youthful beauty of Birishiri. There are also Pahari Cultural Academy, Garo, Hajong etc ethnic groups, several monuments of Tunka Revolution or Tevaga Movement in Hajong language and St. Joseph’s Church.

How to go

Sarkar and Jinnat Paribahan buses leave directly from Dhaka’s Mohakhali Bus Terminal for Durgapur. It takes 250 to 350 taka to go to Durgapur by these two buses. Although it is called Durgapur, usually these buses go to Sukhnagari. From Sukhnagari, one has to cross a small river by boat and go to Durgapur by rickshaw, bus or motorbike. You can go to Durgapur for Tk 20 by bus, Tk 80 to Tk 100 by rickshaw and Tk 100 for two people on a motorcycle.
Howr Express from Dhaka at 10:15 PM or 01:15 PM. You can take Mohanganj Express train to Shyamganj train station and from there you can take bus or CNG to Birishiri Bazar. Or if you want to go a little easier, you can come back to Netrakona by Howar Express/Mohanganj Express train from Challisha Bazar and return by motorcycle for Tk 300 per person. Apart from this, you can take a train from Airport Railway Station at 4.00/4.30 am to Zaria station and go to Durgapur by trawler, auto, CNG or motorcycle for 80 to 100 taka.
Some standard buses ply from Chittagong’s Alankar Mor to Birishiri. These buses cost Tk 450 to Tk 600.
