Djin Mosque

Jiner Mosque is a historical structure located at Denayatpur of Raipur Upazila of Lakshmipur District. Built in 1888 on 57 percent of the land, Jinn’s mosque is 110 feet long and 70 feet wide. Built on the design of Delhi’s Shahi Jame Masjid, this mosque has 3 large domes on its roof. Below the mosque there is a secret shrine about 25 feet deep. Maulana Abdullah, the founder of the mosque used to meditate in this secret place of worship. Today, this shrine has been turned into a well full of water. Built of brick on a foundation of about 15 feet, the grandeur of the design of the minaret, dome and main building of this mosque attracts everyone. There are two ponds in front and side of the mosque.
It is said that this mosque was built by Jinn Katwak during the night and the Jinns worshiped here for several years. Late at night, the local Basishas could hear the chanting of the jinns. The 130-year-old ‘Masjid-e-Jame Abdullah’ is popularly known today as the Jinn’s Mosque.

How to go

Several transport buses including Greenland Express, Albaraka, Alam, Royal, Econo and Dhaka Express ply to Lakshmipur from Syedabad Bus Terminal in capital Dhaka. Bus fare from Dhaka to Lakshmipur will cost 550 to 650 taka. It takes 6/7 hours to reach Laxmipur by bus from Dhaka.
The distance of Jiner Masjid from Lakshmipur district headquarters is about 21 km. From Lakshmipur by local transport (CNG, Autorickshaw, Bus) you can visit the historic Jinn Mosque located on Maulana Abul Khair Road through Raipur Upazila.
