About Sunil Gangopadhyay:
Sunil Gangopadhyay was born on September 7, 1934 at his maternal uncle’s house in Amgram, Rajair, Madaripur. As a teenager, he migrated to the other side of Bengal. He passed MA from Calcutta University. Then his literary career started by writing prose. He came to his wife Madaripur last on November 17, 2010. He died on October 23, 2012 in Kolkata. At present, in order to protect the memory of Sunil Gangopadhyay, initiatives have been taken to preserve various things used by the poet in his ancestral home and to build a laboratory.
How to go
There are various bus services to Madaripur from Gabtali and Keraniganj in Dhaka. From Gabtali you can go to Madaripur by Sarbik, Chandra or Sohail Paribahan bus. Non-AC bus fare will cost Tk 400-500. Again from Gabtali take a bus bound for Barisal to Mustafapur and from there you can take another bus or auto rickshaw to Madaripur Sadar. By sea, one can go to Madaripur by MV Tarika or Dwipraj launch from Dhaka’s Sadarghat. After reaching Kalkini Upazila by bus or CNG from Madaripur district headquarters, you can go to Sunil Gangopadhyay’s house by local vehicles.
