Historical Jitu Miah’r Bari is located at the south of Kazirbazar Bridge in Sheikhghat, Sylhet. Covering an area of ​​1.365 acres, Khan Bahadur Abu Nashar Mohammad Ehia alias Jitu Mia built this structure in Muslim architectural style. Khan Bahadur Abu Nasr Mohammad Ehia alias Jitu Miah started his career as Sub-Registrar but was the Vice Chairman and Honorary Magistrate of Sylhet Municipality from 1897 to 1903. Jitu Mia’s family’s lavish lifestyle was widely discussed in Sylhet at that time. It is said that, at that time, the drawing room of this house used to decorate the Turkish Pasha, the Russian-Turkish war, and various photographs of the princes of the British royal family. And every day hundreds of people coming to Sylhet used to receive hospitality at Jitu Mia’s house.

In 1924, Jitu Mia declared herself childless and left all her properties as waqfs in order to preserve the existence of her zamindari forever. The then Deputy Commissioner KB Ehia was appointed the Mutawalli of the Wakf Estate. At present, the Mutawalli of this estate is appointed ex-officio as the Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet Division.
Apart from the various furniture used in Jitu Mia’s house, calligraphed words of the Holy Quran and Hadith, black table and 20 chairs, the meeting room of that time is noticeable. At present, descendants of the zamindar clan live in 8 living rooms inside the house.

How to go
