Madhupur National Park is one of the biodiversity attractions of Bangladesh. Madhupur National Park is located in Tangail Madhupur Upazila at a distance of about 125 km from Dhaka. The distance from Tangail district to Madhupur Udyan is about 47 km. Sal trees are the main attraction of this forest and it is believed that this forest is hundreds of years old. Madhupur National Park came under the Forest Department in 1962 and the Government of Bangladesh recognized Madhupur Forest as a National Park in 1982 under the Wildlife Act of 1974. The area of Madhupur National Park is about 84,366 hectares. Banshi river flowing by the garden gives the garden a different look. Garo, Koch, Baman and other tribal communities can be seen inside and outside this national park.
Madhupur National Park has many species of vines and trees, among which Shall, Bahera, Amalaki, Turmeric, Amra, Jiga, Vadi, Aswath, Bot Sarpagandha, Shatamuli, Zaina, Bidha, Azuki/Hargaza, Behula etc. are among them. Apart from the green forest landscape, Madhupur National Park has about 11 species of mammals, 7 species of reptiles, 4 species of amphibians and 38 species of birds. Among these, Mukhpora Hanuman, Chitra Deer, Maya Deer, Owl, Wood Peacock, Forest Rooster, Red Faced Monkey, Wild Boar etc. are particularly notable.
Madhupur Udyan houses a Deer Breeding Center adjacent to the Laharia Forest Beat Office and has an observation tower next to it. The entire beauty of the forest can be enjoyed at a glance by climbing to the top of the observation tower.
What else is there in Madhupur National Park
Jatiya Madhupur Udyan has Jui and Chameli Gardens, Dokhla Rest House, Bakul Cottage, Chunia Cottage and two picnic spots. There is also a small market and several tribal villages. There is also a selling center called Karitas for various kinds of silk fabrics handloomed by the tribals.
How to go
Madhupur Udyan has to be reached from Dhaka only by road. From Dhaka’s Mahakhali Bus Terminal, two bus services namely Barman and Shubhecharya Paribahan operate on this route from morning to evening. The fare of these two transports is 280 to 350 taka per person.
