It is difficult to find a beautiful and well-kept zamindar bari like Mohera Jamindar Bari in Bangladesh. About 18 km from Tangail Sadar, the Mahera zamindar house is spread over eight acres of land. Mahera zamindar house stands tall as a priceless monument of ancient civilization and tradition. There are small parks, zoos, picnic spots and boat rides right next to the zamindar house. As the capital is quite close to Dhaka, if you leave in the morning, you can visit the zamindar’s house in one day.
There are two huge surma gates at the entrance of this zamindar house. Along with the huge three main buildings, there are Naib Saheb’s House, Kachari House, Gomstad’s House, Dighi and three more lodges. Before the entrance there is a lake called Visakha Sagar. There are two other ponds named Pasara Pond and Rani Pond towards the back of the main building.
The buildings in Mahera Zamindar’s house
Chowdhury Lodge: Chowdhury Lodge is seen only after entering the zamindar house through the main gate. The pillars of the pink colored building are built in Roman architectural style. The beautifully designed building has corrugated roofs. There is a beautiful garden and green field in front of this two storied building.
Maharaj Lodge: Built in Byzantine architectural style, Maharaj Lodge building has 6 columns in front. The curved railing of the front steps of the pink colored Maharaj Lodge and the hanging balcony add to the beauty of the building. The building has a total of 12 rooms, a front garden and a tennis court at the back. This building is used as a shooting spot.
Anand Lodge: The most interesting building of Mahera Zamindar house is Anand Lodge. The blue and white colored building has 8 beautiful columns in front. The three-storey hanging balcony has made the building more attractive. In front of Anand Lodge is a beautiful garden with statues of deer, tigers and birds.
Kalicharan Lodge: Built at the end of the abolition of the Zamindari system, Kalicharan Lodge is quite different from other buildings. This building is built in English architectural style in the shape of English letter ‘U’. In the afternoon, beautiful lights from inside the building can be seen due to the different architectural style.
Apart from the above buildings, the Mahera Zamindar house has Naib Bhawan, Kachari Bhawan and Rani Mahal.
Ticket price
An entry fee of 80 rupees is required to enter Mahera Zamindar’s house. If you have a car, its parking fee is 50 rupees. Entry ticket to Shishu Park is 20 taka. If you want to swim in the swimming pool, you have to pay 300 taka. Bargain for the boat ride as the price of the ride goes up during the holidays.
How to go
To see Mahera Zamindar house you have to go to Natiapara bus stand in Tangail district. Its distance from Dhaka is about 70 km. It will take 2 to 2.5 hours to go by bus. However, this Dhaka Tangail Road is often jammed, so it is better to calculate the time accordingly.
From Dhaka’s Mohakhali Bus Terminal, Baram, Jhatika, Dhaleswari etc. buses depart for Tangail. All these buses cost 200 to 250 taka. You have to come to Natiapara bus stand by any bus of your choice. Get off the bus at Natiapara and come to Maherapara Police Training Center by CNG, rickshaw or baby taxi. The Mahera Zamindar house itself is currently used as a police training centre.
If you board the Nirala bus from Mahakhali at a fare of Tk 160, then you will get down at Dubai Police Training Center. To go to Mahera Zamindar’s house on CNG from Dubail, the fare is 15 taka per person, and if you want to take reserve, then the fare will be 75 taka.
Besides, if you want to come from any other part of the country, you have to come to Tangail by any means. After arriving at Tangail Natiyapara, one can travel to Mahera Zamindar’s house in the above mentioned way.
