Nandail Dighi

Nandail Dighi is a historical dighi located in Nandail village of Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district. The largest lake in the district is located 23 km east of Jaipurhat city. Nandail Dighi is about 1 km long and spread over an area of ​​59.4 acres. It is said that in 1610, the Maurya Emperor Nandalal dug the historical Nandail Dighi to facilitate cultivation during the dry season and to meet the scarcity of drinking water. Local people believe that it takes only one night to dig Nandail Dighi. Settlements are now built around what were once high low hills and densely forested lakes.
Nandail Dighi is now widely popular as a picnic spot due to its unsurpassed natural beauty. And in winter many guest birds arrive here. Besides, Nandail College has been set up on the bank of Dighi.

How to go

Nandail Dighi is located at Nandail village of Kalai Thana, 19 km east of Jaipurhat city by local transport.
Dhaka to Joypurhat: Shah Fateh Ali Transport, St Martin Travels, Shyamoli Transport NR, SR Travels, Hanif etc. buses from various parts of Dhaka (Gabatli, Mohakhali, Abdullahpur, Shyamoli and Kalyanpur) to Joypurhat. AC/Non-AC bus ticket price ranges from Tk 550 to Tk 1400 per person. Besides, you can go to Joypurhat by Ekta, Chilahati, Hritzan, Kurigram and Panchagarh Express from Dhaka’s Kamalapur or Airport Railway Station. Train fare will be Tk 465-1599 per seat.
