Pagla Dewan Boddhobhumi

Pagla Dewan Boddhobhumi (Pagla Dewan Boddhobhumi) is a historical monument of the massacre that took place in Chakbarkat Union of Jaipurhat district during the Liberation War of 1971. Distance from Jaipurhat to Pagla Dewan Slaughterhouse is 17 km. Towards the end of May 1971, the Pakistani invasion forces established a base in Pagla Dewan with camps and bunkers. At that time, people from different areas passing through the border to seek refuge in India were looted and killed by Pakistani forces and their bodies were buried in the Pagla Dewan slaughterhouse.
At the instigation of the then Razakars, on December 14, Pak forces brutally killed 122 innocent villagers of Pagla Dewan. According to private information, Pakistani forces and their allies killed about 4,000 people, robbed 1,000 women of their dignity and destroyed many houses in Pagla Dewan. After almost 2-3 months of independence, no one could live here due to the smell of rotting corpses. The bones of the half-melted corpses would come out when the ground was dug. Many nearby villages, including Pagla Dewan, still bear the marks of brutality of the invading forces. 100 yards away from the slaughter ground, the camp and concrete bunkers of the Pak army still stand. In 1992, the countrymen came to know about the Pagla Dewan slaughterhouse through the efforts of a local journalist. Later, a memorial was constructed at this slaughterhouse under the supervision of the Public Works Department. The highest pillar made of black tiles, the pillar altar made of red bricks and the broken walls are considered to be symbols of grief and mourning for the massacre that took place on December 14, 1971
