Puthia Rajbari is a unique piece of eye-catching architecture located in Rajshahi. Puthia Rajbari is located 30 km from Rajshahi divisional city and only 1 km from Rajshahi-Natore highway. The multi-chambered two-storied Puthia palace has a lion door on the north side to enter. Zamindars or kings used to conduct their royal affairs from here. Presently under the supervision of the Directorate of Archaeology, the Puthia Rajbari is being used as Laskarpur Degree College.
The moats surrounding Puthia Rajbari have different names. Apart from the Shiva Sarovar or Shivsagar, Marachowki, Bekichowki, Gopalchowki and Gobish Sarovar moats, there is a huge pond called Shyamsagar in Rajbari. Two palaces and several mummies built by zamindars still stand tall here. Among them are the large Afiq Mashir built in the Dochala style, the large Shiva temple or Bhubaneswar Mampir built in 1823 AD, the four-storied Puthia Dol Mashir and the Govinda temple located in the premises of the Puthia Panchani Zamindar Bari. Puthia Rajbari is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.
How to go
Distance from Rajshahi and Natore to Puthia Rajbari by road is 34 and 18 km respectively. You can take any bus bound for Rajshahi and get off at Puthia bus stand on the Rajshahi-Nato highway and walk for 5 to 10 minutes to reach Rajbari. There is an option to reach Puthia by taking a Natore-bound bus from Rajshahi Central Bus Terminal and a direct local bus to Puthia
