Sandwip is an island upazila located at the mouth of Meghna river in Chittagong district on the southeast coast of Bay of Bengal. This island is 50 km long and 5-15 km wide with a population of about 4 lakh. The open green fields, the grass that wakes up on the river or the simple people, in one word, everything about this island is likeable. The island also has various traditional places to visit. A trip to this island surrounded by rivers and oceans is one to remember for a lifetime. And for camping during winter, the river bank on the west side of Sandwip (Rahmatpur) is an ideal place. How to go
Dhaka to Kumira: From Fakirapool to Chittagong by any bus, the fare will be 680 taka. Ask the bus supervisor to drop you at the head of Sandeep Ferighat Jabar Road. From there, Kumira-Sandwip Ferighat Bridge can be reached by TomTom or rickshaw by autorickshaw for Tk 10-20.
Chittagong to Kumira: One can go to Kumira Ghatghar Road by safe-line service from Alankar or AK Khan intersection for a fare of Tk 30-35. Again, you can go to Kumira Ghatghar Road from New Market by metro service number 7 for Tk 27. Kumira-Sandwip Ferighat Bridge can be reached by Tomtom or rickshaw from Kumira Ghatghar Road for Tk 10-20.
Kumira Ghat to Sandwip: There are speedboats and small launches from Kumira Sandwip Ghat to Sandwip. Speedboat fare is 300 taka per person, it will take about 30 minutes to go to Guptachara Ghat (Sandwip). If you want to stay at the hotel, take CNG from Sandwip Ghat (Guptachara Ghat) to the town complex. And for camping, you can go to the west bank of Sandwip (Rahmatpur) near the river. You can get off at Sandwip Ghat and go to Rahmatpur with CNG (Rent 250-300 Taka).
