Shah Jamaler Mazar is located near Chapatali Ghat on the banks of Brahmaputra river in Jamalpur district headquarters. During the reign of Emperor Akbar in 1586 AD, Hazrat Shah Jamal (RA) came to this region from Yemen for the purpose of preaching religion. Word of the spiritual powers of the Sufi dervish Pir Kamel Hazrat Shah Jamal (RA) spread to the Mughal court. Then King Akbar was keen to bear all the expenses of Hazrat Shah Jamal’s Khanka Sharif. Along with this, Hazrat Shah Jamal (R.A.) sent a few pargana donation certificates. But Hazrat Shah Jamal (RA) rejected this tempting offer. This region came to be known as Jamalpur because of Hazrat Shah Jamal (RA).
Currently, the construction of Hazrat Shah Jamal’s Mazar Sharif has been modernized. And next to the burial ground is an old traditional mosque. Ors Mahfil is celebrated here every year. Apart from this, every day numerous devotees come here to pay homage to Mazar Sharif and for various purposes.
