Location of Shankar Math (ShreeShree Shangkar Moth) in New Bazaar area of Barisal district city. Born on August 12, 1884 in Galachipa, Swami Prajnananda Saraswati, the leader of the anti-separation movement, founded this ashram named Sri Sri Shankar Math in 1912. Swami Prajnananda Saraswati’s real name is Satish Chandra Mukhopadhyay. Even after establishing the Ashram, Swami Prajnananda’s role in the anti-British movement was unforgettable. Even during the Great Liberation War of 1971, Shankar Math was always open as a shelter for freedom fighters.
The three-domed Sankara Mutt is topped with a metal ‘O’ symbol and a trident. There are three rooms inside Shankar Math. The main room of the monastery houses a Shiva linga made of hard rock. And in one room on both sides there is the idol of Sankarananda and in the other the samadhi temple of Swami Prajnananda Saraswati.

Dhaka to Barisal by launch: Sundarban 7/8, Surbhi 8, Parabat 11, Kirtankhola 1/2 launches depart for Barisal from Dhaka’s Sadarghat between 8 pm and 9 pm. And if you want to go in the morning, you can go to the Greenline launch. The launches that leave at night reach Barisal around 5 am. The rental of these launch decks is Tk 150, double cabin is Tk 1600 and VIP cabin is Tk 4500.
