Shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran (RA).

The Shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) is one of the spiritual structures of Sylhet city. Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) was the nephew and chief follower of Islam preacher Shah Jalal (RA) who came to Bangladesh from the Middle East. The distance from the Dargah of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) to the shrine of Shah Paran (RA) is only 8 km. The shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) is located on a big hill in Khadim Nagar area to the east of Sylhet city. It is popularly known that Hazrat Shah Paran (r.a.) built the stairs to climb up and down the shrine mound during the Mughal period. To the west of the shrine is a mosque built in Mughal style. A short distance from the main shrine mound is a house for women tourists, a rest room for foreign tourists and a pond for ablution. Although there is information about the arrival of Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) to Sylhet in 1303 with Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA), it is not known how and when Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) died. The visit of the shrine by hundreds of pilgrims every day makes clear the contribution of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) in establishing Muslim rule and spreading Islam in Sylhet.
