Sujabad Kella is a historical structure located in the village of Sujabad No. 2 Magar Union of Nalchiti Upazila of Jhalkathi District. The fort was built by Shahzada Shuja, the son of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, Subedar of Bengal. During the late Mughal period, the Jhalakathi region became a major looting area for Mughal and Portuguese pirates. Shahzada Suja, the son of Subeda of Bengal, founded the village of Sujabad in 1654 and built two forts here in order to discipline the pirates. Of the two forts, one was made of earth and the other of brick. Which at that time came to be known as Andar and Bahir Kella.
Legend has it that two forts were built in one night, which is why the local residents once called Suzabad Fort ‘Ghost’s Garh’. But now Sujabad Fort is better known as ‘Puratan College’. Later Shahzada Shuja was imprisoned and defeated in battle by his brother Aurangzeb and took refuge in this fort.
