Tomb of Bir Shreshtha Munsi Abdur Rauf

Birsrestha Munshi Abdur Rauf Monument, one of the brave sons of Bengali, is lying in eternal sleep on the small island of Kaptai Lake at Burighat of Naniarchar in Rangamati district. The words written on the grave site surrounded by deep blue water, “Tumi Durjoy, fearless deathless soul” are a unique manifestation of his glorious heroism. Every year on Independence and Victory Day, many visitors from far and wide come to pay their respects to this great hero of the Liberation War. Besides, on the way to the grave site, Naniarchar Pineapple plantations, motor boats plying in teams on Kaptai Lake, and the beautiful scenery around is also enthralling.
On April 20, 1971, a section of the 8th East Bengal Regiment was fighting against the Pakistani invaders in the Burighat Chingri Khal area of ​​Mahalachari police station in Rangamati, Chittagong Hill Tracts. That day, three launches loaded with heavy weapons and two-speed boats surrounded the freedom fighters. In a sudden attack by the invading forces, Munshi Abdur Rauf fought the enemy alone with a machine gun and helped his comrades to escape to safety. In the battle, two launches and a speed boat of the invading force sank in the water, two platoon soldiers were killed. Munsi Abdur Rauf was martyred by a mortar fired by the surprise attack force. Later, Dayal Chakma, a native of the Burighat Bhangamura area, recovered his body and buried it on a small island in Kaptai Lake. On April 25, 1996, the grave site of Munshi Abdur Rauf was identified with the help of his comrades and residents. On March 25, 2006, a memorial with a sculpture of the rifle was erected.

How to go

The tomb of Bir Shreshtha Munsi Abdur Rauf can be reached via Khagrachari and Rangamati. From Dhaka, there are various bus services to Khagrachari and Rangamati from Kamalapur, Fakirapur, Gabtali or Kalabagan. After reaching Khagrachari, you can take an engine-powered boat to the burial place via Naniarchar. From Rangamati city, you can take a car reserve and reach the jetty by an engine-driven boat.
One can reach Rangamati from the Oxygen intersection of Chittagong City and go to the burial place in the same way. The distance from Rangamati to Naniarchar is 40 km. It takes about one and a half hours to reach the cemetery from Nanyarchar Ghat.
